Abstract

An Evaluation on the Factors Affecting Resource Choice in Electricity Generation
In this study, some factors that are thought to affect the selection of resources used as inputs in electricity generation have been selected and the effect of these factors on resource choice is evaluated within the framework of the relevant literature. In this context, the energy-environment relationship and human health, facility location selection, characteristics of energy resources, renewable energy policy, energy security, economic and social factors, and the effect of efficiency on resource selection were examined. Within the framework of the study, the approaches in the literature on the subject were examined and a synthesis was created from these approaches. In resource selection, the environmental impact of the relevant resource and foreign dependency on fossil fuels are the factors that come to the fore today and are more on the agenda. However, depending on the technological developments, it has been concluded that fossil energy resources will be needed in the future in terms of energy security, but priority should be given to renewable energy resources in terms of economic benefit and protection of the environment. For this reason, it would be appropriate to analyze the issue from a holistic perspective in which all factors and the special situation of the relevant country or region are considered in the selection of resources.
