Abstract

Evaluation of the Concept of Ecomuseum within the Context of Tourism Potential: The Cases of Safranbolu, Yörükköy, Bulak and Yazıköy
Safranbolu, which is an important tourism destination in Western Black Sea region of Turkey, is an attractive site with its historical values, natural beauties and alternative tourism facilities. Various studies have been conducted on cultural heritage of Safranbolu and its neighboring villages of Yörükköy, Yazıköy and Bulak. Traditional lifestyle in these historical sites, which hold similar characteristics in terms of abstract and concrete cultural heritage, have been followed seasonally due to migration to large cities. Production of traditional handicrafts, food and beverage culture and the unique manners and customs, which have survived until now, have been attractive for the visitors. For example, historical baths in Safranbolu, Yazıköy and Bulak carry the footprints of the abstract and the concrete historical heritage with their architectural characteristics and the manners that continue in these baths. All activities conducted in the region should include the components of the traditional urban fabric and should be presented to the visitors in an interactive way. Besides, material support is required to maintain local development while preserving the ecological balance. The aim of this paper is to present the historical urban fabric as an open-air museum in which the traditional cloths of the local inhabitants and the historical beauties intervene in order to reflect the traditional lifestyle. Besides, we evaluate this proposal for the presentation within the concept of Ecomuseum and discuss its potential for the tourism in the region.
