Abstract
Examining the Web Sites of Private Elemantary Schools via Content Analysis Method
The purpose of this study is to determine the web sites characteristics of private elemantary schools. For this purpose, the web sites of 47 private elemantary schools, which are in the center districts of Izmir, were analyzed. The main characteristics which are emphasized in the web sites of private elemantary schools were determined by analyzing the data via content analysis method. As a result of content analysis, 20 different characteristics used for positioning the schools and 40 different characteristics emphasized in the web sites were determined. 40 different characteristics emphasized in the web sites were separated into five categories. These categories are: 1) physical facilities, 2) corporate information, 3) promotion materials, 4) international corporation, and 5) foreign language. The characteristics that are under these categories were analyzed via statistical tests. Schools were grouped according to price, horizontal, and vertical expansion and analyzed in order to find the differences among them. It was found out that the schools which have higher price and another branch give more importance to the characteristics in the international cooperation category. Besides this, the schools which have kindergarden give more importance to the characteristics in the corporate information and foreign language categories whereas the schools which have highschool give more importance to the characteristics in the physical facilities, promotion materials, and international cooperation categories.
