Abstract


Typological Analysis of Kars Karakurt Traditional Housing
Historical environments, which have become symbols of the existence of societies, are the most important evidence of the deep-rooted past. While historical environments play an important role in transferring the acquired knowledge and experiences to future generations, they also have various potentials in terms of cultural tourism. Along with historical environments, architectural works are also a part of our existing cultural heritage. Therefore, it is necessary to document and protect our cultural heritage in order to transfer it to future generations correctly. With this awareness, it is important to research, document and protect the residential architecture that has been formed with thousands of years of cultural experience. With the start of water retention of the Karakurt HPP dam, which was started to be built in 2014 in the Karakurt town of Kars province, where various ethnic groups live and where cultural differences and riches are located, some cultural assets in the surrounding were in danger of being submerged. Within the scope of this study, the Karakurt residential architecture, which has an important place in the residential fabric of Kars and some of it will be submerged by the dam waters, has been investigated. For this purpose, according to the data obtained from the field studies in Karakurt, the architectural features of 8 registered houses were focused on and the traditional Karakurt houses were examined with the "typological analysis method", the architectural features of the Karakurt houses and the facade typology were revealed. As a result of the study, the houses with the features of the period, it has been determined that the features such as plan form, number of floors, roof form and material, facade material both have similar characteristics with each other and show the characteristics of Baltic architecture.
