Abstract

Reading Social Sustainability through Adaptive Reuse Historical Buildings: The Case of Samsun
The concept of sustainability; It consists of three basic components: environmental, social and economic. The social component, on the other hand, is discussed in a broad context, including cultural parameters, improving the quality of life, preserving historical and cultural values, and strengthening social relations. One of the main actors of historical and cultural values is historical buildings. The use of historical buildings in a new function for conservation is one of the important tools of social sustainability. Museums are a frequently preferred application today in determining the new function. In this study, the social sustainability of the repurposed historical buildings is discussed. In the study, two historical buildings used as a museum in the city center of Samsun were determined as samples. The method of the study; It is built on a two-stage evaluation system, which is testing social sustainability through sample structures and making content analysis of the discourses of users who experience the structures in the MAXQDA 2022 program. As a result, while it is seen that they contribute positively to social sustainability, it has been concluded that virtual heritage, social development, location and spatial features are insufficient at some points.
