Abstract
Ideological Impact in News Discourse: News on the Opening of Ayasofya to Worship
There may be ideological interventions during the transformation of reality into news. The media, which has become an industry branch with capitalism, has become a commodity in which the current ideologies of the capitalists are instrumentalized. The media industry conveys its ideologies through various discourses. Discourse analysis method is used in order to reveal the ideological codes and implicit meanings in the news texts. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the ideological effect on the news production processes of the newspapers regarding the opening of Hagia Sophia, based on the presupposition that the news in the newspapers are structured by ideological interventions. In this context, by choosing Cumhuriyet to represent the left ideology and Yeni Akit to represent the right ideology, the discursive differences of the newspapers were tried to be revealed in the example of the news published on the subject in the newspapers for a week following the 24 July 2020, the date when Hagia Sophia was opened for worship as a mosque. It has been concluded that the news in the newspapers examined between July 24, 2020 and July 30, 2020 are conveyed with discourses reflecting the current ideologies of the newspapers and the ownership structure of the newspapers is effective in the news production processes.
