Abstract
Attitudes of Local People Towards Tourists as Part of the Coronavirus Pandemic: The Case of Çanakkale
The coronavirus (Covid-19), which emerged in Wuhan, China's Hubei province during the last months of 2019, has been spread in a short time with increased travel, which is one of the inevitable effects of globalization, and this global epidemic has been declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organization. Several psychological reactions such as stress, anxiety, tension, worry and fear have begun to be seen on people with the declaration of the coronavirus as a global epidemic. Beside this, the image of the regions where the coronavirus epidemic was intense has been greatly damaged. Nowadays, inevitable problems are occurring, such as a decrease of trust and an increase of anxiety—especially for the people living in destinations where the epidemic is less common to the tourists traveling from these regions. This study aims to examine the attitudes of the local people living in Çanakkale towards tourists due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. According to this purpose, a semi-structured interview, which is widely used in qualitative research methods, was employed with participating local people of different demographic characteristics. The data obtained were subject to content analysis.
