Abstract
Traditional Housing Architecture and Conservation Problems of Bitlis-Uzuntaş Village
Bitlis Province has been the settlement area of different civilizations due to its geographical location and strategic importance. The culture, lifestyle, traditions and beliefs of different civilizations have shaped the city center and rural settlements as well as affected the architecture in these settlements. In the study, in which the rural architecture of Uzuntaş Village in Hizan District of Bitlis will be discussed, traditional houses were built using local materials in harmony with the topography, as in the city center, and shaped according to the life and production style of their users. Although no conservation and registration work has been carried out in Uzuntaş Village until today, the settlement pattern has managed to preserve its originality to a large extent. However, the increase in migration to big cities due to limited education and job opportunities and the decrease in the population in the village, abandonment of buildings, unqualified repairs, use of modern materials, etc. are the factors that threaten the traditional texture. The houses that make up the traditional texture to a large extent should be documented without losing their original qualities. In this context, it was aimed to document the architectural features of the houses by examining the traditional settlement pattern in the study and suggestions were made by putting forward the conservation problems.
