Abstract
Kars in the Context of Cultural Tourism and Sustainable Development Policies
The study deals with the city of Kars with its historical city traces and spatial projects in the context of sustainable development policies in the field of cultural tourism. The importance of tangible and intangible cultural heritage values in Kars in terms of regional development is emphasised with some field examples. Most existing studies on cultural tourism in Turkey are only gaining momentum in line with the policies followed towards sustainable development. Careful approaches are needed to highlight the common natural and cultural riches that connect the Caspian Sea geography and the urban connections in the East of our country and the South Caucasus. Continuing these studies in every dimension will be a solid guarantee of our common future. The city of Kars has also stood out with its spatial projects in recent years. These projects range from small-scale restorations to creating museums. Apart from these, many issues ranging from international transportation corridors are included in our research topic by determining tourism and development policies. Kars is on its way to becoming an important logistics base opening out to the east of Turkey in every sense. However, many more planned studies are needed for this purpose.
