Abstract

A Study on Travel with Pets
The relationship between humans and animals has come from past to present by gaining different dimensions. With the effect of the changing family structure, today many people see their pets as members of their families and spend most of their time with them. People do not want to leave these friends, which they include in all areas of their lives, and many of them want to include their pets in touristic travels. In this context, the opinions of pet owners on traveling with a pet and the difficulties they experience during these travels are explored in this study. The study is important in terms of revealing the problems experienced in travel with pets in the tourism sector. In the study, the data were collected through interviews with tourists who have pets using the semi-structured interview technique, and these data were analyzed by content analysis. As a result of the study, it was observed that the majority of the participants have negative views on traveling with pets, and they are reluctant to travel with pets due to the current restrictions in the main components of tourism such as transportation and accommodation, the reactions of other people, and the problems that may be caused by the characteristics of their pets.
