Abstract
An Evaluation on the Problems of the Employed Personnel in the Tourism Sector: The Case of Kahramanmaraş
The aim of this research is to determine the working conditions and problems faced by personnel employed in the tourism sector in Kahramanmaraş, which has attracted great attention in the context of winter tourism in recent years. For this purpose, data were collected from face-to-face and phone conversations with 15 people with industry experience using a purposeful sampling technique between August 10 and September 10, 2020. Descriptive analysis and content analysis were used together in the analysis of the research data. According to the results, complaints against the customers are the main problems faced by employees in business life, while low wages, non-payment of overtime wages, weekly leave problems, unfair job distribution, excessive workload, etc. are also specified factors. When the reasons that employees chose to work in the tourism sector were examined, it was revealed that the most important factor was the education received in the field of tourism. In addition, it has been understood that the majority of the employees are not satisfied with the wage policy of their businesses, and they have negative opinions about healthy and safe working conditions.
