Abstract

Investigation of Existing Deficiencies and Disadvantages in Shopping Centers in Terms of Spatial Design: A Study on Karabük People
Shopping malls, increasing in the last twenty -five years, have been an important part of the economic and social sphere as well as urban life. While shopping centers have developed some structural differences, they provide similar functions to city centers by acting as areas for meeting, gathering and leisure. This article examines the current shortcomings and negativities in X and Y AVMs operating in the city of Karabük in terms of spatial design. The universe of the research consists of people who visited X and Y AVMs between January and February of 2020. Surveys were used as a data collection tool. Among the analyses made, it has been revealed that the perception of aesthetic space is weak, and there is no design related to the color and aesthetics used in the space, there is no design related to nature, and there is no design related to the magnetic field. It has been determined that other seating and sitting areas, possible playgrounds, cultural activity areas and traditional sales points are insufficient or not available. In addition, the other finding is that the outdoor (landscape) arrangement is insufficient. However, in the X and Y shopping malls, there are adequate spatial transportation and circulation, sports and playgrounds, spaces such as places of worship, shops, open car park areas and smoking areas.
