Abstract


Attitudes of Young Adults Towards Marriage and Family Life
This study has been carried out to determine attitudes toward marriage and family life of the university youth. Students who have studying at the Karabuk University constitute the universe of the study. Within the scope of the study, 931 students were included, selected using the “Stratified Random Sampling Method” from among the students studying at the University of Karabuk in 2010-2011 Academic Year Fall Term. Of the university students included in the research were 43.3% female (n=403) and 56.7% male students (n=528). Out of the students currently continuing their education, 26.9% were freshman, 31.8% sophomore, 6.0% junior, and 8.2% senior students. The ages of the students ranged between 17 and 27. It has been found in this study, students attitudes towards marriage and family life indicate statistically significant difference both of gender (t(929)=13.38, p<.05) and classes(F (4-921) = 2.56, p<.05). According to the results from this study, university students have sensitive and positive to the marriage and family life. Also it has revealed, female student than male students and first-grade students than other classes have more traditional view on gender roles related to marriage and family life.
