Abstract


Comparison of Turkish and Hungarian Students’ Perceptions towards Peace
The purpose of this study is to determine and compare perceptions of students about peace who study at Turkish and Hungarian universities. To achieve this goal semi-structured interview is used. By qualitative research, in this study the term of peace, education of peace and the importance of peace in education are studied. The sample of the study is composed of 40 students of which 20 students from Faculty of Education at Sinop University and 20 students from Faculty of Pedagogy at Kaposvar University. Firstly, the term of peace and its education were evaluated in the study. In the next step, a questionnaire was developed in order to determine the perceptions of students toward peace. Besides, some interviews were conducted with students from Sinop University Faculty of Education and Kaposvar University Faculty of Pedagogy. These interviews were conducted using semi structured questionnaire which was prepared according to the specialist opinions. Questions including the meaning of peace, possibility of global peace, cultural or ethnical difference in the meaning of peace, requirements for sustainable and permanent peace, the reasons for the breakdown of peace, the threats for permanent peace, the opinion of university students about the importance of peace in their education, the views of students about the purpose of peace education, the ideas of students about the teaching methods and techniques, problems faced in education of peace according to the students were asked. Finally the results are compared and evaluated.
