Abstract
An Evaluation on Tourism Studies Related to Sinop
Sinop constitutes one of the tourism centers with a notably high potential for Turkey in terms of both its geographical location and its natural, historical, as well as cultural values. In order to lead the development of Sinop as a tourism center, first of all, it is necessary to determine the most crucial actors that bring Sinop tourism to the fore. The aim of this study is to examine the academic studies (articles, full-text proceedings, and dissertations) published on tourism in Sinop, and to reveal the shift of the prominent research topics with bibliometric analysis in the literature. For this purpose, 45 articles and proceedings as well as 21 dissertations were examined. The articles’ data were obtained from Google Scholar with the keywords "Sinop" and "tourism" over a ten-year period (2010-2020). In addition, the online database of the National Thesis Center of Council of Higher Education was used to obtain the dissertations’ data. According to the findings, the articles and proceedings are mostly about "ecological tourism, agriculture and farm", "alternative tourism" and "Sinop Prison and dark tourism". On the other hand, the dissertations are mostly about "Dark tourism, tourism demand and quality of life". The findings guide future research on tourism in Sinop.
