Abstract
Compatibility of Registered Local Food Names with Common Use: Kastamonu Bagel or Kel Bagel?
Considering the criteria for obtaining geographical indications, it has seen as the first step to give the name to a product which is commonly used in the region. Kastamonu Bagel, which is one of the geographically marked products of the Kastamonu region, was known as Bald Bagel by the local people for many years, but in 2019 it received a geographical indication with the name Kastamonu Bagel. The aim of the study is to investigate the issues in the geographical indication product being called Kastamonu Bagel. The study was carried out by applying face-to-face questionnaires to 566 people at eight different locations in Kastamonu city center regarding the population density. The research was conducted in October-November 2019, data were analzed using Frequency and Chi-Square analyzes via SPSS. Result show that 70% of the participants stated that the name of this product was Bald Bagel. As a result, it has been observed with the example of Kastamonu Simidi that the principles of obtaining geographical indication for a product should be handled more carefully by authorized institutions and organizations.
