Abstract
The Effect of Self-Esteem on Profession Choice: A Study on People Choosing the Tourism Profession
This study examines the effect of self-esteem on career choice. Within the scope of this purpose, a field study was carried out on students who are active in tourism and students studying any department related to tourism in the provinces of Mardin and Karabük. In the study in which the questionnaire technique was used, data were collected by a snowball sampling method. A total of 493 people, 225 from Mardin and 268 from Karabük, participated in the research. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that self-esteem affects the choice of profession both in general and in terms of provinces. In addition, it has been determined that self-efficacy, which is a sub-dimension of self-esteem, also affects the choice of profession. However, no significant result could be reached regarding the second dimension of self-esteem, the dimension of self-love.
