Disasters and Risks in Cultural Landscapes: An Assessment on the Historical Peninsula Management Plan
Cultural landscapes are important heritage areas that should be protected with their history, identity and original values. However, these areas are under serious threat, especially due to the global climate crisis, floods, droughts, earthquakes, fires, and various human activities such as urbanization pressure, vandalism, terrorism, and war. The aim of this study is to investigate the natural or man-made threats and the preparations made against these threats in the Historic Peninsula, which has a great touristic importance and is full of historical, cultural and visual riches. In this context, the causes and risks of disasters around the world were investigated. By examining the Historic Peninsula Management Plan, the policies, strategies and targets, risk management decisions, projects and practices developed regarding the disaster process within the scope of the plan were evaluated. The study results identified the risks for the study area, and also pointed out that the ineadequate planning in the historical penisula before, during and after the disasters as it is severely exposed to disasters caused by natural and human activities and it is under threat in the future. Therefore, there is a need for master plans that are sensitive to disasters in historical environments, that minimize possible threats to cultural heritage, that take into account the physical and socio-economic structure of the area, that produce scenarios for before, during and after disasters, with all details considered.
