Abstract

Analysis of the Illuminations of the Three Qur’ans Preserved in the Central Library of the Presidency of Religious Affairs
From past to present, Turks have developed their own understanding of art in the geographies they ruled, by mixing their own culture with the culture of the geography they were in. In order to transfer this cultural accumulation to future generations, they used writing, decoration, in short, art. Art is embodied in a book as binding, marbling, calligraphy, miniature and illumination. Illumination is one of the Turkish arts from Central Asia to the present. The importance that Turks gave to science has been reflected in their book arts. Choosing Islam and their adornment of the holy book also enabled them to advance in the art of illumination. In this research, the illuminations of the Qur'an with the inventory numbers of 000645, 000071, 000059, which are thought to belong to the Classical period and preserved in the Central Library of the Presidency of Religious Affairs, have been analyzed. The visuals of the works have been taken from the archive scanning in the digital environment and they have also been analyzed on-site in the library. It has been tried to determine which period the illuminations of the manuscripts, whose copy date is not known, belong to by looking at the workmanship, motif, composition and stylistic features. According to the findings, it is thought that the ornaments of the Qur'an analyzed in the study have the characteristics of classical period ornamentation. It is aimed to record the illuminations of the manuscripts analyzed in the study with detailed drawings and in writing, to create a resource for researchers working on Turkish art and to transfer them to future generations.
