Abstract
Analyzing Five 18th Century Manuscripts Being Preserved in Kayseri Raşit Efendi Manuscript Library in Terms of Decoration
Turkey is a substantial country in terms of museums, libraries, archives and manuscripts being preserved in private collections. A good part of the manuscripts being preserved in libraries had already been transferred into digital media and this process is still in progress. Thus, researchers are intended to provide the entire manuscripts on their service. Skins and illuminations of five 18th century manuscripts being preserved in Kayseri Raşit Efendi Manuscript Library are the subject of this research. These five works that had been predominantly performed belonging to classic style are come out to reflect 18th century period characteristics. Skins and illuminations of the works are analyzed in terms of style, period, labor, pattern, color, composition and design. In order to understand the characteristics of design and patterns clearly in addition to record the characteristics of compositions in detail, analytical drawings are performed. Since the skin ornaments and illuminations of five 18th century manuscripts are analyzed in detail by instantiating with drawings, this study will become a source for the researchers and artists who works in the field of Turkish Arts. Besides, the manuscripts which are encountered the risk of being defeated by the destructive effect of time will be recorded in detail and handed down the next generations.
