The Adventure of a Cultural Heritage: Erzurum Feyzullah Efendi Mansion
Historical assets and constructions that have reached until today are cultural heritages that have hosted various societies over time. It is of great importance to preserve the architectural assets, which are one of the most important elements of our cultural heritage, reflect the culture of the society at the time it was built, construction techniques, building materials, socio-economic status, etc. The most widely used method of preserving historical buildings is the re-functioning of the building. In the study, Feyzullah Efendi Mansion, which was transformed to Erzurum Traditional Handicrafts Museum within the scope of the "Cultural Road" project, is examined. Feyzullah Efendi Mansion, which is one of the cultural heritages of Erzurum, has been functioned as a museum for handicrafts that have sunk into oblivion. The aim of the research is to reveal the location and history of the building, which was built as a mansion, and the transformation process into Erzurum Traditional Handicrafts Museum by evaluating the transformation of spaces. In this context, Feyzullah Efendi Mansion was examined through on-site observations and using project drawings and photographs. As a result of the study, the positive and negative aspects of the architectural identity of the building were revealed by emphasizing the importance of re-functioning in order to sustainability of cultural heritage.
