Abstract
Reception Analysis on Turkish TV Series: “Medcezir” Series
Messages in media content can be interpreted in different ways. Everyone may not be affected by these messages in the same way and at the same rate. Along with the personal characteristics of the individual, the structure of the society in which he lives can also reveal this situation. It is known that the reception analysis developed by the British School of Cultural Studies is useful in understanding how TV viewers receive the messages in the content. When a television program is watched, the scenes and representations in its content are reconstructed in the mind of the audience. With the coding-decoding model developed by Stuart Hall, it is possible to make analyzes that can reveal how television programs are shaped in the minds of the audience. In this study, in-depth interview method was used within the framework of reception analysis regarding the messages in the content of the TV series "Medcezir" broadcast on Star TV screens. For the research, 12 people who watched the series were interviewed. According to the results of the study, it is observed that the Medcezir series is mostly received by the subjects with a deliberative and dominant understanding. Most of the participants share the view that the series harms the culture of the society, and it is understood that they think that the culture reflected in the series is incompatible with their own culture. On the other hand, it is observed that different results were obtained in terms of male and female participants in the reception study.
